How to eliminate bottleneck.
How to eliminate bottleneck.
In previous artcle we discussed about bottleneck in production process.
Now we will see How to eliminate bottleneck?
How to eliminate bottleneck is very important in manufacturing.
Bottleneck removal in lean manufacturing is a very crucial task for management.
How to eliminate bottleneck in manufacturing is important not only for productivity but also for smooth operations flow on line. For reducing WIP on production line, it is the important question that... How to eliminate bottleneck?
Bottleneck analysis is important for the bottleneck elimination in manufacturing.
How to eliminate bottleneck in production line without having much inventory in process line is target for management. Following are some goals of the bottleneck analysis.
GOALS OF THE BOTTLENECK ANALYSIS:
- Identification of the key bottlenecks in manufacturing process.
- Relevant quantitative data collection for bottlneck analysis.
- Exploring possible solutions for bottleneck root cause.
- Act for continuous improvement by utilizing possible solutions.
Several ways to eliminate bottleneck in production
1. Minimising downtime.
Ensure well maintained bottlenecked machine.
Reduce the time wasted in set ups and changeovers.
2. Effectively utilising the bottlenecked machine by eliminating non-value activities so as to maximize efficiency of the bottlenecked machine.
Removing the non-value activities results in a shorter cycle time.
For Bottlenecked machine, materials provided and parts produced should be with zero defect.
3. Investing in more machinery which completes the same action to optimise the bottlenecks operation.
4. Adding resources to the bottleneck operation.
5. Provide a constant buffer stock upstream of the bottleneck.
6. Train more operators for the bottlenecked machines.
7. Proper scheduling to reduces production halt due to a lack of operator.
8. Process improvement on the bottleneck resource also plays important role to eliminate bottleneck.
9. Process on bottlenecked machine should be splitted into parts which can be performed by other machine so as to reduce cycle time of bottlenecked machine.
Breaking the bottleneck operation into smaller activities and perform some of them to other resources results in a shorter cycle time of bottlenecked machine and hence increased capacity.
